Facts about Roof Stains:
- They are caused by air-born spores from Black Algae, Fungus and Molds. They will not go away on their own and will continue to get worse if left untreated.
- The stains are not only unsightly, they can shorten the life of the shingles and in some cases void the manufacturers warrantee.
- As the algae and fungus multiplies they can cause the shingles to dry and curl causing leaks and/or costly repairs.
Cleaning Methods to Avoid:
- Do Not Use…Bleach, TSP, Acids or Heavy alkali products for cleaning. It takes large amounts of these chemicals to clean an average size house and the run off is very caustic and aggressive to plants, animals and humans. Most of these products undiluted are known carcinogens and very dangerous. Acids and TPS can glaze or permanently etch windows. Undiluted bleach products can void your termite bond by neutralizing the treatments.
- Do Not Use…High pressure cleaning methods. Too much pressure can damage the shingle face by removing surface granules or tearing the shingles apart on older roofs.
